The William Orpen Memorial Sculpture Project

The Stillorgan Chamber of Commerce, spearheaded by local photographer Dominic Lee, is currently fundraising for a bronze sculpture of Stillorgan born artist Sir William Orpen.

This fantastic initiative will significantly contribute to the 2017 rejuvenation plans for Stillorgan. The main objective of this project will not only attract visitors from home and abroad, but will essentially promote Stillorgan as a commercial and tourist hub in County Dublin.

The 11 foot tall bronze sculpture will be unveiled by Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones and will coincide with an exhibition of Orpen's works, along with letters, memorabilia including his easel, chair, paintbrushes & pallet. The mirror which featured in his painting "The Mirror" kindly offered by artist Ken Howard R.A. the current owner of Orpen's home/studio in Chelsea and Patron of this charitable project. We also have several watercolours by William’s Mother Anne and Father Arthur Herbert Orpen. As with many sculptures, this one requires private funding. We have already secured several small donations and substantial donations from the following: (who will have their names on a plaque at the sculpture).
